circledog!

By Charlie Crystle

Finally! It’s taken a long time, a lot of thrashing about, a brand consultant, and about 230 suggestions from some great people. The winning name was submitted by Phil from Tungsten Branding. Others on the list were pretty good, but this somehow resonated with us.

In the end we chose a name that isn’t literal or business-y. Circledog is evocative, fresh, friendly, and in somewhat meaningless. We’ll modify it with a tagline–no idea what–that says what it does (Circledog–customer, contact, marketing and sales management for small business…yeah, that’s way too long).

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and help! We hope you like the name. We do.

Next up: the logo! Logo contest anyone?

I don’t like the name. There were a lot of other better names suggested. If you were looking for an abstract name, there are other abstract names that still convey something about what the product does. I hope you reconsider.

It was a long, exhaustive process. I think the runners up were TouchSpring (had some negatives) and BreezeCircle (sounded like a personal care product).

We could have gone totally abstract, like WuuHuu but not for the SOHO market.

I really do like it. The logo with a solid tagline that evokes the positives (loyalty, friendly, circle of influence) and functionality will be helpful.

    What did you like?

I like the new new name - better than CRMBrella (which frankly was rather weak). Circle Dog is a brave choice certainly, but in the end a name is a name, the product is the strength that you guys have. Your product is the key, not the name. You could call it “Engelbert” and it would still be great easy to use software.

    Thanks, Stephen–great points.
